Update on Monday Morning Lowland Snow Chance

FastCast—Monday, Dec. 6 to Wednesday, Dec. 8:

The weather has been on the chilly side recently, with highs only in the low 40s over the weekend. The big story ahead is the potential for lowland snow early Monday morning. The highest chance for accumulating snow is in Whatcom County, away from the water. Brief snow and accumulations on grassy surfaces are possible around the area, mainly from 3-6 AM Monday, but the chance of this is slim. Rain/snow mix is possible area-wide before precipitation changes to rain from south to north by midday Monday. 0.1-0.3 inches of rain is possible on Monday, with additional showers possible on Tuesday. Breezy, but drier weather is expected on Wednesday, with gusts of 25-35 mph. The passes will receive a total of 8-18 inches of snow through Wednesday. Expect lowland highs in the low 40s on Monday and mid-upper 40s on Tuesday and Wednesday, with lows in the mid 30s to low 40s.

A weakening weather system is approaching the region on Monday, and due to cold temperatures, there is a slight chance of snow in the lowlands.

The highest chance of light snow is from approximately Everett northward early Monday morning. The high-resolution HRRR model forecast below shows this.

Areas from Snohomish County northward and in the Cascade foothills may receive a dusting of snow on grassy surfaces. The highest chance of snow is in Whatcom County (and potentially Skagit County and the Northern Olympic Peninsula). In these areas where snow does accumulate, up to 0.5” is possible, with isolated higher totals possible. The rest of the lowlands can expect a cold rain with the potential for rain/snow mix or very brief snow, changing to all rain by midday (0.1-0.3” possible).

The UW forecast shows this as well, with the most potential snow in Whatcom County.

Snow will fall in the mountains as well, with 3-6 inches at the passes by Monday night.

Chilly temperatures will continue on Monday, with highs only reaching the low 40s. Below is the Weather Underground forecast for Federal Way.

Expect highs in the 40s, warmest on Tuesday, then cooling back to the low-mid 40s by midweek. Breezy weather is expected on Wednesday (gusts 25-35 mph) and significant mountain snow will fall (another 8-12 inches at the passes) by Thursday.

Stay tuned…as more active weather is expected late in the week!
