Another Wet & Rainy Week Ahead

FastCast—Sunday, Nov. 7 to Wednesday, Nov. 10:

Set your clocks back Saturday night! We “fall back” to Pacific Standard Time on Sunday! It has been a rainy start to November, and guess what…it’s going to keep raining this week. A system moves in Sunday, bringing another round of rain (0.2-0.5”, potentially higher in the Convergence Zone). Breezy conditions, with gusts up to 20-30 mph, are possible on Sunday as well. Monday will be a short break in the rain, with rain ending early in the morning and beginning late at night. A system moves past the area on Tuesday, bringing another round of rain (0.2-0.5”) and breezy conditions (20-35 mph). Wednesday will be the driest day in the near future, with around 0.1” of showers possible. With snow levels around 3,000 feet, expect up to 8-16” of snow at the passes by Tuesday, and much more (2-3 feet) at higher elevations. Lowland highs will be in the upper 40s to mid 50s, with lows in the low to mid 40s.

It has been a wet first week of November, with 1.5-2.5” of rain. The next system moves into the area on Sunday, followed by more systems through the week. For the big picture, take a look at the UW rain forecast through next Saturday (13th).

This forecast, consistent with other models, suggests 3-5 inches of rain in the lowlands through the next 7 days. These high totals are due to a possible atmospheric river late in the week…but more on that later.

The Federal Way forecast from Weather Underground is below.

Temperatures will be on the cool side, struggling to reach the mid 50s, and lows will remain in the low to mid 40s. Rain is expected at times, with breaks during the day on Monday and Wednesday.

Below is the UW forecast for rain through Wednesday morning

Expect 0.75-1 inch from approximately Seattle southeastward. From Seattle to Everett and west of Tacoma, expect 1.25-1.75”. Much more rain is possible later in the week due to a potential atmospheric river. Stay tuned!

We have now entered mountain snow season, and widespread mountain snow accumulations are expected through Wednesday. The UW model below shows snow accumulations through Wednesday afternoon.

Expect up to 8-16” at pass levels by Wednesday (most at Stevens Pass). In the higher elevations (~6,000+ ft), 2-4 feet are possible!

Snow levels may rise up to 6,000-8,000 feet by Thursday as much warmer air associated with a potential atmospheric river moves in. This may melt snow and bring rises to area rivers. Stay tuned!

Breezy weather, with gusts of 20-35 mph, is possible on Sunday. Another system will move offshore of the area on Tuesday, with another round of breezy conditions possible.
