Somewhat cooler temperatures are ahead for Washington as onshore flow brings an influx of slightly cooler marine air to begin the week. Let's take a look at the forecast!

Below is the NWS NBM forecast for highs on Monday.

Expect Monday's highs to reach the mid 70s to low 80s from Everett northward, and the low to mid 80s from Everett southward (warmest near the Cascade foothills). The coast will reach the mid to upper 60s, the Willamette Valley will reach the mid 80s to low 90s, and Eastern Washington will reach the mid 90s to low 100s.

Monday afternoon and evening will also bring a chance of thunderstorms across Eastern Washington, as seen in the European model forecast below.

Notice a decent lightning potential across NE Washington and the Blue Mountains in SE Washington, with a lesser chance for the Cascades. There is also a concerning chance of thunderstorms across fire-ridden NE Oregon and Central Idaho. If you're in any of these areas, be on the lookout for thunderstorms and dry lightning, which could start new fires.

Change is noticeable on Tuesday, with the NWS NBM forecast seen below.

On Tuesday, the lowlands will drop to the mid to upper 70s (isolated highs in the low 80s). The coast will remain in the mid to upper 60s, while the Willamette Valley drops to the low to mid 80s. Eastern Washington will drop to the upper 80s to upper 90s.

Additionally, the influx of cooler air on Tuesday will bring areas of gusty winds in Eastern Washington, as seen below in the European model forecast.

Notice gusts of 30-40 mph on the east slopes of the Cascades downwind of gaps and downwind of the Columbia River Gorge. One thing to watch is how these winds on Tuesday afternoon influence the behavior of the 41,000-acre Retreat Fire, which is burning to the west of Naches.

Lastly, here's the NWS NBM forecast for highs on Wednesday.

Heat will begin to build back into the region on Wednesday. The lowlands from Everett north will reach the upper 70s to low 80s, while areas from Everett south will reach the mid to upper 80s. The coast will reach the upper 60s to mid 70s, the Willamette Valley will reach the upper 80s to low 90s, and Eastern Washington will reach the upper 80s to upper 90s.

Hotter conditions are expected for the latter half of the week, so stay tuned!
