FastCast—Monday, Oct. 3 to Friday, Oct. 7:
Near-record highs that are far above normal will continue this week. Monday’s highs will again reach the upper 70s to low 80s. Surface smoke from the Bolt Creek Fire will continue to impact the lowlands on Monday, degrading AQI to the “moderate” to “unhealthy for sensitive groups” categories around the region. From Tuesday to Friday, conditions will be partly to mostly cloudy. Highs will return to a bit more seasonable, in the low 70s from Tuesday to Thursday. We’ll return to the mid 70s on Friday, with a warmer weekend likely. Lows all week will be in the low to mid 50s.

It has been a warm start to October, and that will continue this week. Highs below 70º are not in the forecast, and neither is rain. Monday will be the warmest day of the week. The HRRR forecast is below.
Expect highs in the lowlands to reach the mid to upper 70s, potentially the low 80s near the Cascades and in the Fraser River Valley. Areas near the water will only reach the upper 60s to low 70s. Eastern Washington and areas from Olympia southward will reach the upper 70s to mid 80s (hottest in Eastern WA). The place to be is the ocean beaches…where highs will reach the upper 50s!
Surface smoke from the Bolt Creek Fire will again be an issue on Monday. The HRRR forecast is below.
Notice the concentrations of surface smoke reach all the way south toward Centralia. AQI will degrade to the “moderate” to “unhealthy for sensitive groups” categories, and will be even worse in the areas around Lake Wenatchee, closer to both the Bolt Creek and White River Fires.
Tuesday will be cooler in Western Washington, but still warm in Eastern Washington. The European model forecast is below.
Highs in the lowlands on Tuesday will be in the low 70s, closer to average but still unusually warm. The Willamette Valley will also cool back to the low to mid 70s. Eastern Washington will again reach the upper 70s to mid 80s.
Let’s look into the extended forecast. The NWS Climate Prediction Center outlook for October 8th-12th (Saturday to next Wednesday) is below.
There is an 70-80% chance of above normal temperatures in the lowlands, with an 80-90% chance (darkest shades) over southern Washington and most of Oregon.
It’s safe to say that warmer than average weather will last until at least mid-October. Stay tuned!
