Catastrophic Hurricane Laura Making Landfall in Louisiana

Hurricane Laura is making landfall in SW Louisiana/SE Texas. The National Hurricane Center has said that Laura will bring “unsurvivable” storm surge. Here’s the stats at 9:15 PM PDT:

Hurricane Laura
Category: 4
Winds: 150 mph, gusts 170-220 mph
Pressure: 938 millibars

Here’s the current National Hurricane Center track map.

Hurricane Laura’s storm surge will peak at 15-20 feet above normally dry ground. The peak surge will be just east of the center, due to onshore flow.

Look at this map showing the storm surge. Horrific for those in the area.

Storm surge will impact over 300 miles of the Gulf coastline. Before we get to the current landfall situation, here’s a satellite image from earlier on Wednesday.

This is a classic hurricane, with a huge eye, nearly 30 miles wide. You won’t forget Hurricane Laura.

As this is written, the eyewall of Laura is moving onshore near Cameron, LA. Here’s the radar image from KLCH (Lake Charles). This is an incredible, but extremely dangerous storm. Winds are gusting over 85 mph throughout the area, and it will only get worse.

This is an ongoing situation. In the next few days, we will see the effects and impacts of Hurricane Laura.
