Muggy, Moist, and Rainy

Have you stepped outside and noticed how moist and muggy it is? I have...and it’s abnormal for August.

The dew point (measure of moisture in the atmosphere) is quite high right now, with dew points of 60-68 degrees. Normally, we see the mid 50s. In addition, the relative humidity is near 75% around all of the area. Below are dew points at 11 AM Friday.

In addition to the muggy weather, rain showers are moving through the area today (Friday).

Take a look at the UW model showing rain through 5 AM Saturday. Most of the South Sound gets 0.04-0.35 inches of rain.

You’ll receive more or less rain depending on the location of showers/rain bands that move through. The most rain from this system will be in the North Cascades, Coast, and Olympics.

There is a slight chance of thunderstorms in some showers. Be sure to take precautions if you hear thunder/see lightning.

After the rain moves out late Friday, we will have sunny and dry weather until at least early September.
