Heat Building Through Father’s Day Weekend

After starting the week with rain & showers, we ended with mostly sunny weather and temperatures in the 70s to low 80s. Even hotter weather is expected this weekend, peaking on Monday.

Contrary to the common joke that “Seattle summer starts on July 5th,” the official first day of summer (Sunday) will be part of a building heat wave in Western Washington. It’s safe to say that summer will be starting hot!

Let’s start with the Weather Underground forecast for Puyallup.

Temperatures on Saturday will be in the mid to upper 70s, with isolated spots above 80 degrees. Father’s Day will have temperatures of 80 to 85 degrees across the area. However…that is a warm up (no pun intended) for Monday.

Monday will likely be the hottest day of the year so far, and temperatures of 88 to 93 degrees are expected. It’ll be warmest in the valleys and away from the water. Tuesday will be cooler, with temperatures peaking in the low 80s.

These hot temperatures will coincide with the longest days of the year. Since the majority of Western Washington residents don’t have air conditioning, be sure to take heat precautions and stay safe.

While it will be “hot” by Western Washington standards, our temperatures don’t even come close to the extreme heat across the Southwest through the next few days. Below is the forecast from The Weather Channel for this weekend in the Western US.

Whew! Aren’t you glad it’s not that hot? Expect the heat to continue, but lessen, through the start of next week in the Southwest.

Here in Western Washington, we will have some relief from the heat on Wednesday and Thursday of next week, with temperatures in the mid to upper 70s. However, by next Friday, heat will build again, with multiple days near or above 90 degrees possible. We’ll also have low temperatures in the 60s. Stay tuned!
